Textile quality that works

When a hotel selects textiles, the supplier has to be able to meet a range of important requirements. The textile range used must support the hotel’s image in terms of design, colours and custom trims – and “complete” the room in which it is used.
 
The starting point is often a mock-up room in which the designer focuses on creating the desired look, notably through the selection of textiles. But in real life, the textiles have to be able to withstand some 100 changes a year without changing the way they look – so they have to be developed to withstand industrial laundering.
 
In practice, having the perfect range of textiles means that the hotel can create a large number of combinations and themes using a fairly small number of variants. Having few units with maximum flexibility makes it easy for staff to switch the entire environment, and to work with the combinations of matt and glossy textiles, rustic and refined surfaces, patterns and colours which complete the staging.
 
Profitable benefits in everyday life
The textiles have to be optimised to give staff the most efficient working conditions and ensure that the hotel has a low Life Cycle Cost:

• Textiles must be of the right quality and have an elegant, well-ironed, consistent finish throughout so that they always work the first time.
• Bed linen must be lightweight so that it is more ergonomic to work with. This also means that more textiles can be stacked on the linen trolleys, thus allowing staff to work faster.
• Textiles must not stick together. This will make it quicker to put them on the beds and spread them out.
• Bed linen must not be ribbed. This saves time when making the beds.
• Terry towelling must offer dimensional stability, with minimal shrinkage and luxurious quality. Without frayed side seams or pulled edging. This allows staff to immediately find the perfect towel to match.
• If the hotel chooses high-quality textiles, experience shows that labour time savings of 5-10% per room can be achieved.

Consistent quality throughout the lifetime of textiles
Large stocks of textiles demand consistent quality throughout their entire economic service life. Therefore, the hotel has to ensure that:

• The colours have been developed for industrial washing so that the visual effect of the colour changes as little as possible. This also applies to white textiles.
• Textiles are developed for large-scale operations, are able to withstand a tough laundering process and always result in a clean, well-ironed finish.
• Products must be free of pilling and retain their smooth surface.
• Products remain consistent when reordered so that both new and old textiles can be used together.
